'Barbarella' TV Series Set Up at Amazon

A TV series based on Jean Claude Foret's Barbarella graphic novel has apparently found a home at Amazon, which has begun to field its own slate of streaming TV series. Foret's Barbarella first appeared in serial form in V-Magazine in 1962 and was collected in a graphic novel that was published in 1964. Though its nudity was mild by the standard of adult comics today (or the Tijuana Bibles that long preceded Barbarella), Foret's creation caused something a scandal in France where it became known as the first "adult" comic book.

Calabash Animates 'Angry Birds' Game Ad

Calabash Animation has bought to life Rovio's iconic Angry Birds for a 30-second spot for the brand's Pirate Pig Attack board game. Created via the Uproar! Agency in New York, the game combines the popular Angry Birds mobile game with the classic stacking game Jenga.

'Snow White' Helmer to Direct 'Ghost in the Shell'

Rupert Sanders, who directed a live-action film featuring the heroine of the first animated feature of them all (Snow White and the Huntsman), has been tapped by Dreamworks to helm a live-action film based on the manga and anime property Ghost in the Shell, which was created by Masamune Shirow. Shirow's original manga, which was published in 1987 and appears ever more prescient with its vision of a computer-dominated future replete with hacker villains, spawned three anime movies, an anime TV series (Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex), and three videogames.

Margot Robbie, who had her star turn in Wolf of Wall Street, is in talks to play Jane in the big budget Tarzan reboot, according to The Wrap. The film will star Alexader Skarsgard, Samuel Jackson, and Christoph Waltz, and is directed by David Yates (see "Geek Movie News Round-Up")

. The prolific Simon Kinberg, who was assigned to write the Fantastic Four script in October (see "Simon Kinberg on 'Fantastic Four'"), has turned in his script and casting is about to begin, according to Variety. The scheduled release date is June 19, 2015.
